I spoke too soon!

Well, the sunny autumn days were good while they lasted! However, we were surprised the other morning as for the very first time we had a Wren make an appearance in our garden, along with our first Blue Tit. Many of you may get these birds all the time, but these are our first and I can't tell you how exciting that was. For a full half hour we experienced our biggest ever feeding morning, with different birds all coming at the same time! I have now resorted to making my own feeders out of small pop bottles. Using a metal scewer I heat it up over the gas hob and burn both the large and small feeding holes in it. I also make holes for two bamboo sticks that the birds may use as a perch on it, and adding some drainage holes at the bottom makes a really good job. I certainly jumped for joy when I saw our regular Robin go onto my home-made feeder!!!! I have bird feeders hung in all the shrubs and small trees in our garden and they were costing me a fortune, but finding out how to make my own is really fun and much more self-rewarding when I see birds feeding from them! The days are gradually becoming shorter now and more gloomy of recent. However, it won't be long to January and we can all look forward to the early spring bulbs making an appearance. I can't wait for my first ever official Dawn Chorus Day. I am making a point of being out there to experience it on the official day! Little things like this keep my spirits boosted on these gloomy days (read about me), as it is coming up to the anniversary of my son's tragic accident. It is still a long hard battle and I still receive therapy, but I am really happy that my desire to paint again has come back - and of course, no clues as to what I am painting!! Yes - birds!!

Lets stay happy this winter together in our group!.
